Care Guide

While caring for your jewellery, it’s important to understand the vulnerabilities of precious metals and stones, and to apply these to your daily use. Acting this way will save you a lot of disappointment, because exposing your precious jewellery - which are delicate pieces - to some activities can damage them.

How to protect the gemstones

1. To protect your precious jewellery, we first recommend avoiding exposure to any impact or pressure.

We have to keep in mind that precious stones do not have all the same resistance.

Diamonds are the hardest stone, followed by sapphire and ruby (details HERE), nevertheless all gemstones (even diamonds) can break or be scratched  if they are exposed to non conforming conditions and/or impact with a hard object.

Therefore it’s important to remove your jewellery when you are doing any handwork, heavy lifting or exercising, especially at the gym, as fine jewellery can be easily damaged by contact with weights or gym machinery.

2. Chemicals and some household substances can also weaken metal or damage natural gemstones, even if not immediately apparent.

That’s why we recommend you also take them off while showering, bathing, cooking, washing dishes, cleaning or applying cosmetic products and perfumes.

Working with any chemical products while gardening could also attack the jewellery without mercy.

Pearls

As pearls are also very soft, beware of abrasive surfaces, because pearls might chip. Do not expose them to heat or chemicals, these may alter the colour of the pearl as well as loosen the glue holding it in the piece.

Cleaning

You can easily polish your jewellery with a soft cotton cloth at home.

Stone pieces (excluding special care stones) can be cleaned using warm soapy water and a soft toothbrush. This will help you reach every corner of your jewel with delicacy, and eliminate all traces of dust, to restore your stones to their natural shine.

Regarding pearls, you can gently wash them with warm water and dish soap.

Cleaning is a good time to check over your piece and check the tightness of stones.
